The "Dear Mother " Anthology honors the lives of many mothers as their children share touching stories of tribute and remembrance. They are letters from the heart, filled with humor, gratitude, forgiveness, regret, love and joy to inspire readers to share their sentiments with their own mothers. Together they form a collective scrapbook, filled with personal landmarks and photographs, that confirms a universal definition of motherhood. Dear Mother will nudge memories to share with your own mother. The letters remind us of what is important in life. We may remember words spoken in love, and words spoken in anger, but words unspoken linger forever.

Intended as a gift, this creative book I got from Amazon but then couldn't put it down. I'm keeping it. Anyway, there are enough coffee and wine droplets that it can no longer be a gift. I'll just have to leave it to my daughter. The hundred-or-so letters to mothers, living and not, cover so much territory. Many of the letter-writers write directly to their mothers, some are written to heaven, a couple are poems to moms, and each has its own moments. This special thing I liked: these personal letters, some touching, some funny, some happy, a few a little annoyed, are not elaborate, not overlong, but like a good ballad-poem the letters say clearly what they mean. There's no adornment in these select letters. The poignancy is in the simple words. These are heart-felt "conversations."
I have to mention the Foreward. It's beautifully, artfully written, should not be missed (nor should the few explanatory pages at the end).

Dear Mother Letters of Tribute and Remembrance eBook Jo Nelsen Reviews
This is a lovely book of personal tributes by women and men to their mother. Some stories made me laugh and some made me cry. But I could relate to not having told my mother all the things I wish I would have when I had the chance. This book is an excellent gift for a mother to start the conversation with her about how much she means to you. Every mother should get this as a gift on Mother's Day.
Here is a book to treasure and to re-read again and again. It's filled with every kind of emotion--grief, regret, guilt, but also connection, gratitude and hope. The stories touch on every religion from animism to Buddhism, or no religion at all. And of course, they portray every kind of mother. Every story made me wish I could have known each of them. Every story makes me wish I could meet its author. The writing in each essay is fresh, skilled, illuminating and evocative, even though they are short. I love it that what means most to these children are the small, shared moments, the bits of knowledge and advice somehow absorbed, the lessons in resilience and wisdom in adversity. Mainly I love the editor's forward, when she writes, "We may remember words spoken in love and words spoken in anger, but words unspoken linger forever."
I did have to take the book in small doses, as each vignette moved me to tears, guilt and memories of my own. But I persisted. This experience is too good to miss. The recent death of Barbara Bush is inspiring so many tributes, all positive and meaningful. This book does the same for so many mothers never in the public eye. No matter what relationship you had with your mother, this is a book for everyone.
I wrote a review and do not see it.
Mother - a word of unique meaning to each human. This is a collection of notes to mothers - some alive, some gone - and some both. Many are penned knowing we will read their note, but a few are intimate, heart to heart. It made this reader want to be one of the writers, to perhaps put in writing those words my Mom should have heard.
